I have given them the glory that you gave Me, that they may be one as we are One. (John 17:22). Jesus' great desire for His disciples was that they would become one. He wanted them unified as a powerful witness to the reality of God's love. Unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace has always been key in the mind of Christ. Why peace? Because our Gospel is a Gospel of peace. God wants us to be peacemakers who sow the Gospel in peace & raise the fruit of righteousness.  Jesus Christ is the Prince of peace. Peacemakers are called sons of God. In the early church, there was unity in the Body of Christ. The churches were spiritual entities & not legal entities. The apostles provided oversight for the churches. Their set up was as follows: Church at Antioch; Church in Ephesus; Church at Corinth. Meaning: A group of believers meeting at Antioch; in Ephesus; at Corinth. This is how it was from the beginning.  As time went by, we changed the set up from spiritual entities to legal entities. Each church now had its own separate constitution which is enforceable at law. It's now have to operate strictly in terms of its own constitution, with some of the clauses therein which are not consistent with the Scriptures. This is how divisions began to this day. Note that when the Bible talks of unity of the Spirit, it is not referring to unity of the organizations which we have created. Christianity is a relationship with God & not an organization.  It is an organism. We are the body of Christ. This body must be functional just as the human body operates. The right leg does not say to the nose, I am not part of you. All parts work together well. All parts are dependent on each other.  When you take a step, the other leg follows because there is unity & functionality. This is how the church should operate. Yes, we may have differences here & there, but on weightier things we must be united, work together, & speak with one voice.  What are these weightier things? 1). In evangelism, (soul winning), we need to work together. Go into the world & draw men unto Christ. Do not steal sheep from other churches.  Why evangelize fish that are already in the pond? They have already been caught. Go into the world & be a fisher of men for Christ. 2). Let's work together in the area of discipleship; that is, growing saints in the Word of God & helping them to be ROOTED in Christ. Investing our lives in the lives of the new converts until they are dedicated, fruitful, committed, mature, faithful Christians. Let us present a simple Gospel & return to the BASICS as recorded in the Word of God. 3). Let us cooperate with one another in the area of compassionate ministry; that is, sharing among believers & with the needy people out there without discrimination. 4). Let us work together as churches at Healing, Deliverance & Miracles Crusades. Many people will come to Christ through those crusades & we need to do Christ centered counselling & follow up. We need to put them in the churches, thus, the need to work together. 5). Let us make peace with God & be filled & led by the Holy Spirit. This way, we will be positioned to live holy lives & will be granted wisdom, revelation, guidance & direction. If we can cooperate together in this few areas to start with, we will make breakthrough's in more areas. Our unity will continue to be strengthened. Church, remember that unity is key. Together we make it. Together we achieve more, & make a greater impact. God commands a blessing where there is unity. Thank you Jesus. Good morning Holy Spirit. Prayer: Father, help us to be united as the Godhead is united.  Remove all the divisions in the church worldwide & cause us to work together well for the glory of God. Remove all selfish interests & let God's interests take precedence.  Let your will be done & not our will. Help us to be doers of the Word. Help us to do all things faithfully, in love, humility, simplicity, gentleness, & unto the glory of God. Thank you Jesus for hearing & answering my prayer. Put your angels to action.
