For this reason a man will leave his father & mother & be united to his wife, & the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery - but I am talking of Christ & the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, & the wife must respect her husband. (Ephesians 5:31-33). The union of husband & wife merges two persons in such a way that little can affect one without also affecting the other.
