Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ & go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, & of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, & eternal judgement. And God permitting,  we will do so. (Hebrews 6:1-3). Church, we have been dwelling on elementary teachings for far too long. It's time to for us go on to maturity (but not leaving the elementary). We need to produce spiritually qualified people; people who can witness the resurrection of Jesus Christ to others, one on one, lead someone to Christ & disciple him or her. Certain elementary teachings are essential for all believers to understand. Those basics include the importance of faith, the foolishness of trying to be saved by good deeds, the meaning of baptism & spiritual gifts, & the facts of resurrection & eternal life. To go on to maturity in our understanding, we need to move beyond (but not away from) the elementary teachings to a more complete understanding of the faith. And this is what the author intends for them to do. Mature Christians should be teaching new Christians the basics. Then, acting on what they know, the mature will learn even more from God's Word. We need to take the new Christians beyond the basics of their faith to an understanding of Christ as the perfect High priest & the fulfillment of all the Old Testament prophecies. Rather than arguing about the respective merits of Judaism & Christianity, they needed to depend on Christ & live effectively for Him. We are born to  REPRODUCE. We, who are mature must invest our lives in the lives on new Christians so that they will grow & become disciples, who will in turn repeat the same process in the lives of another. So that they become loyal, dedicated, fruitful, committed, mature Christians. Let us go on to maturity. Thank you Jesus. Good morning Holy Spirit. Prayer: Father, I pray for your church worldwide today. Help us to invest our lives in the lives of new Christians, so that they will be mature people who are able to witness Jesus Christ to others, lead people to Christ & disciple them. Move us away from the current position where we have many church members but who cannot witness, or lead someone to Christ & disciple him. I  pray that you raise faithful men & women who will be discipled & end up up being spiritually qualified people. They will be the pastor's helpers, assistants, etc. Today's subject may be deep to many, I pray that you reveal more to them in Jesus name. You gave us a command to do evangelism & discipleship. The wing of discipleship is lagging behind, when it is also key in so far as the growth of the church is concerned. Help us Lord to do discipleship so that we will raise mature Christians. Help us to select faithful Christians by the Spirit, who can be discipled. Those who are already disciples, give us the grace to help them by the Spirit to become disciple makers.
