But avoid foolish controversies & genealogies & arguments & quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable & useless. (Titus 3:9). Paul warned Titus, as he warned Timothy, not to get involved in foolish & unprofitable arguments. (see 2 Timothy 2:14). This does not mean we should refuse to study, discuss & examine different interpretations of difficult Bible passages with others. No, I am not saying that. Paul is warning against petty quarrels, not honest discussion that does not take us anywhere. For example, one can take the verse: Go & multiply & say it means that we should have many wives in order to populate the earth. With each having one wife, it's impossible. You try & show him the correct position of having one wife & one husband & that the two are glued together for life. He develops an argument & is not prepared to listen & consider your view. He wants you to take his view, that's all. This kind of discussion does not take you anywhere. Its unprofitable. It is a one sided discussion. Communication is two way. I speak, you listen, consider what i have said & then respond. You speak, i listen, consider what you have said, & then respond. As foolish arguments develop, it is better to turn the discussion back to a helpful direction, or politely excuse yourself. Prayer: Father, help us not to enter into petty quarrels concerning your Word. Let our lives bear witness to Your Word & preach more to others silently. Align our words to Your Word. Help us to have Christlike character. This is key in influencing people for Christ. In Jesus mighty name we pray & believe, Amen. Grace & peace be with you
This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put My laws in their minds & write them on their hearts. I will be their God, & they will be My people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying: Know the Lord, because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest. (Hebrews 8:10-11). If our hearts are not changed, following God's rules will be unpleasant & difficult. We will rebel against being told how to live the Christian way. The Holy Spirit, however, gives us new desires, helping us wanting to obey God. With new hearts, hearts of flesh & not hearts of stone, we will find that serving God is our greatest joy. Under God's new covenant, God's law is inside us & not outside, ie, on a tablet of stone. No, it's written in our hearts. It is no longer an external set of rules & principles. The Holy Spirit reminds us of Christ's words, activates our ...
