What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith serve him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes & daily food. If one of you says to him: Go, I wish you well; keep warm & well fed, but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James 2:14-17). When someone claims to have faith, sometimes what he or she may have is intellectual assent - agreement with a set of Christian teachings - & as such it would be incomplete faith. True faith transforms our conduct as well as our thoughts. If our lives remain unchanged, we don't truly believe the truths we claim to believe. We cannot earn our salvation by serving God only. Deeds of loving service are not a substitute for, but rather a verification of our faith in Christ. Our good deeds alone can never earn salvation, true faith always results in a changed life & good deeds. Paul speaks against those who try to be saved by deeds instead of true faith; James speaks against those who confuse mere intellectual assent with true faith. After all, even demons know who Jesus is, but they don't obey Him. (James 2:19). True faith involves a commitment of your whole self to God. Thank you Jesus. Good morning Holy Spirit. Prayer: Father, fill us with true faith. Develop in us the kind that works through love. The kind that makes us feel what others are feeling & take action or help them. Let our faith be accompanied by good deeds so that Christlike qualities are truly resembled in us. Those who are sitting on the fence will see that & follow our example as we follow the example of Christ. The Kingdom of God will enter into the hearts of many people. Thank you Father for hearing & answering my prayer. In Jesus mighty name we pray & believe, Amen. Grace & peace be with you.
This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put My laws in their minds & write them on their hearts. I will be their God, & they will be My people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying: Know the Lord, because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest. (Hebrews 8:10-11). If our hearts are not changed, following God's rules will be unpleasant & difficult. We will rebel against being told how to live the Christian way. The Holy Spirit, however, gives us new desires, helping us wanting to obey God. With new hearts, hearts of flesh & not hearts of stone, we will find that serving God is our greatest joy. Under God's new covenant, God's law is inside us & not outside, ie, on a tablet of stone. No, it's written in our hearts. It is no longer an external set of rules & principles. The Holy Spirit reminds us of Christ's words, activates our ...
