What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness  have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as it were by works. The stumbled over the stumbling stone. (Romans 9:30-32). The Jews had a worthy goal - to honor God. But they tried to achieve it the wrong way - by rigid & painstaking obedience to the law. Thus, some of them became more dedicated to the law than to God. They thought if they kept the law, God would have to accept them as His people. But God cannot be controlled. He brought into effect a second covenant through Jesus Christ where He accepts men from every nation who fear Him & do what is right. In this new covenant salvation is received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The laws of God are put on our minds & written on our hearts & not on the tablets of stone. We, the Gentiles who were not part of the first covenant between God & the house of Israel & Judah, are now incorporated in this new covenant. Jesus is Lord of all & Lord of life.The Jews did not see that their Scriptures, the Old Testament, taught salvation by faith & not by human effort. (see Genesis 15:6). The stumbling stone was Jesus. The Jews did not believe in Him because He didn't meet their expectations for the Messiah. Some people still stumble over Christ because salvation by faith doesn't make sense to them. They would rather try to earn their way to God, or else expect God simply to overlook their sins. Others stumble over Christ because His values are the opposite of the world's. He asks for humility, & many are unwilling to humble themselves before Him. He requires obedience, & many refuse to put their wills at His disposal. Thank you Jesus. Good morning Holy Spirit.  Prayer: Father, your church is split on the question of the way to God. The Bible says that salvation is by grace through faith. It is not by works. However, some are following the law of righteousness. The Bible says: You credit our faith as righteousness.  Our righteousness comes from You on the basis of our faith in Jesus Christ. It is not a righteousness of my own that comes from the law. Father, days are going, people are dying, I pray that you give your people a revelation on the correct way to God & on the subject of righteousness. Let the spirit of revelation sweep through the church. The Bible says: Jesus is the way, the truth & the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. Let this revelation be made clear to our brothers & sisters who are lost & some who disregard the authority of the Bible. Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, convict your people in regards to sin, righteousness & judgement. I intercede for Your church & has a burdened heart for it. Open their eyes & turn them from darkness to light, from the power of satan to God. Send your angels & let them minister to our salvation & deliverance needs.
